Raku Mud Club

A calm, friendly pottery course for your wellbeing — slow down for a morning each week, have a go on the wheel, and make things to keep.

Come and get your hands muddy. Over six unhurried Thursday mornings, you'll learn to throw and shape clay on the potter's wheel in a small, welcoming group. Working with clay has a way of settling a busy mind — it's absorbing, calming, and quietly satisfying — and many people find that time spent making something, alongside others, does real good for their mental health and wellbeing. It's completely free, all materials are provided, and no experience is needed. Just a gentle, creative morning to look forward to each week.

This is for you if you…

Have always fancied a go on the potter's wheel
Would love a calm, creative morning just for you
Could do with slowing down and switching off for a bit
Enjoy the idea of making things alongside good company

Across six Thursday mornings, you'll learn to throw on the wheel at your own pace.

There's no rush and nothing to get right — just clay, your hands, and time to yourself. Each week you'll build a little more skill, making mugs, bowls and other simple pieces, with plenty of space for a cuppa and a blether. Many people find the wheel wonderfully absorbing — an hour where the rest of the week melts away.

By the end, you'll have made a small collection of your own work to be proud of.

The finale · Raku firing

In the final week, each person chooses two favourite pieces to be Raku fired — a dramatic outdoor firing that gives glazes their unique, unrepeatable surfaces. You'll take yours home as a lasting reminder.

Good for the mind, too

You don't need to be “good” at pottery for it to do you good. Time with clay is calming and absorbing, and a friendly weekly routine can lift low spirits, ease stress, and help you feel more like yourself again.
